A poem for a cat.

I wrote this poem in 2003. It was for  cat who had passed: I’d read about what happened in my paper. I’m posting it today because it reminded me about how the Feminine is about seeing and relating and often not knowing what has happened to an animal, a bird, or a person who had disappeared.

I’m somebody’s friend
Somebody’s all.
She/He noticed everything about me
Saw me shining
Saw the shape of my paws
My needs
My catkin tail
My dancing.

Somebody is already grieving.
Wondering
Fretting
Imagining.
The cat says…
Separation is impossible
We are always together, forever.
But he/she will be saying
What I’ve lost is you in your fur
And being able to see you
Your gaze and your passion
Your sound and your singing.
Your prancing.
